Queen City High.com Write Up

RYLE RAIDERSClass 6A, District 6
Head Coach: Bryson Warner (61-34 @ Ryle, eight years, 61-34 overall)
2010 Record: 12-2, 5-0 Class 6A, District 6

Overview: The 2010 season was special for Ryle making it all the way to the state final four and pinning the only loss on Class 5A champion, Highlands. A repeat of that effort seems unlikely in 2011, but the Raiders are not short on talent.

The focal point of the offense will be senior running back Travis Elliott, who is coming off a junior campaign that saw him rush for 2,165 yards and 35 touchdowns. With a new signal caller and a very good line expect even more out of Elliott. Head coach Bryson Warner will put the ball in his hands as many different ways and as much as possible so he can make plays. Up front big Brad Weber has turned himself into a Division I prospect. If sophomore Lex Sowards shows he can handle the speed at the varsity level it could make this a very explosive offense once again. The passing game still has some holes as four players vie for the starting quarterback position and Ryan Smith moves into the top receiver spot with only four career catches.

Across the front on defense you have ends Tony Burtraw, Jake Nutter and tackle Weber taking on foes. Last season Nutter excelled as a pass rusher after being moved from defensive back. At linebacker Mac Vollett is primed for a big year and Elliott is always a force when in the game. Vollett also plays guard on offense. The secondary will be headed by Smith and Tanner Pullice. They hope to repeat the 22-interception performance the team had in 2010.

The kicking game is on solid footing with Garrett Mead. He tallied three field goals and 47 total points as a sophomore.
