Lonkard and Hempel nominated for 2011 Sportsmen of the Year

Caleb Lonkard, Ryle, senior, football, wrestling and baseball. He was a four-year varsity starter in wrestling, winning two state medals and finishing as regional champion at 145 pounds. In football, he was a three-year varsity starter and top receiver his senior year as well as team captain. He will play in the Northern Kentucky All-Star Game. A three-year starter at centerfield in baseball, he will continue with that sport at Northern Kentucky University. He has a 3.48 GPA in the classroom.

Conner Hempel, Ryle, senior, football and baseball. Three-year starter in both sports. Quarterback led the Raiders to a school record 12-2 season and the Class 6A state semifinals. Rushed for 1,002 yards and 11 touchdowns, and passed for 1,212 yards and nine scores. Will play football at Harvard. Starter at third base in baseball and cleanup hitter.
