HIGHLANDS 58, RYLE 13

One week after seeing their 28-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Elder the Highlands Bluebirds quickly got back to their winning way by blowing past the Ryle Raiders with a 58-13 win on Senior Night in Union.

Ironically, the Bluebirds returned to the place where their last winning streak was snapped and they got the revenge they looking for against Ryle as a new winning streak was started.

Neither the Raiders’ defense nor the rain could slow down the Highlands’ (9-1) on this night. Quarterback Donovan McCoy had a tremendous night through the air as he completed 15-of-22 passes for 250 yards and five touchdowns. Luke Turner was on the receiving end of four of those scoring passes as the senior finished with 172 yards on seven receptions. Sophomore Josh Watson would chip in with 70 yards on six carries in the win.

Ryle (3-7) got on the scoreboard first as Eric Moore found Kyle Pangallo for a 6-yard TD pass. With inspired effort on both side of the ball, the Raiders led 7-0 after the game’s first quarter came to an end. The final three quarters of play would belong to the Bluebirds though. Highlands put up 31 unanswered points before intermission and never looked back.

Playoff action kicks off next weekend in the Bluegrass State. Highlands hosts Boyd County as they begin their quest for a fifth straight state title while Ryle hits the road for a meeting with Scott County.
