Ryle pummels Boone County, 48-13

Marc Hardin,11:32 p.m. EDT October 3, 2014
The Ryle football team extended its regular-season winning streak against Class 6A district rival Boone County to six on Friday with a 48-13 win over the host Rebels on Irv Goode Field at Owen Hauck Stadium in Florence.
The last time the Rebels (1-6) beat the Raiders (2-5) in the regular season was in 2008. Their last win against Ryle came with a 2011 playoff conquest.
"They've been our rival since we opened the school," said Raiders running back Collin England. "To come in here and get a win on their field is great."
Behind the rugged running of England, a 6-foot-1, 218-pound junior, and the passing combination of Ryan Rytlewski to Grant Arnwine, the Raiders raced to a 35-7 halftime lead against the Rebels. Rytlewski and England both scored on 1-yard first-quarter touchdown runs for a 13-0 Raiders advantage.
Rytlewski, who carried three times for 31 yards on the first scoring drive, found the end zone in the first three minutes. His quick quarterback keeper was set up by a short, game-opening Rebels drive resulting in a 15-yard punt to the Boone County 26.
Raiders strong safety Alex Brownell sacked Rebels quarterback Jamar Lamb for a 9-yard loss on the game's first play from scrimmage to set the defensive tone for previously hardluck Ryle, which has allowed 15 points or fewer in three games, two of them losses.
England's score capped a 10-play, 87-yard drive on which he ran four times for 48 yards. The extra-point kick failed with 28.2 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. England finished with 18 carries for 169 yards with two touchdowns.
"Unbelievable effort," Ryle coach Mike Engler said of England's performance, which included several tackle-breaking runs, some impressive pile-driving, and rushes on which he carried several Rebels on his back. "Collin is learning how to run the ball hard. And, by doing so, he's becoming a very good football player."
Boone County pulled to within 13-7 in the opening minute of the second quarter on Lamb's 91-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Figueroa on third-and-11 from the Rebels' 9, and Sam Gascon's kick. Figueroa finished with four catches for 141 yards.
Ryle responded with 28 unanswered points to take a 41-7 lead with 7:18 to go in the third quarter. Scoring second-quarter TDs were Arnwine on a pair of grabs of 28 and 38 yards from Rytlewski, and Ryan Woolf with a 9-yard scamper.
Arnwine's first score was preceded by a 29-yard England ramble to the Rebels' 46. Woolf's score was set up by an 18-yard England carry on which he stiff-armed his way to the Boone County 30.
Arnwine's second TD grab with 49.2 seconds to play in the half, came on first down moments after Ryle cornerback Eric Moore intercepted Lamb at the Raiders' 42 and returned it 22 yards. Another defensive hero for the Raiders was safety David Rich, who recovered a fumble that set up England's second score.
England had 130 first-half rushing yards. His second touchdown on a 2-yard run gave the Raiders a 34-point lead. His 19-yard run to the Rebels' 2 set up the score.
"It starts off with the offensive line, and we knew we could run on them," said Rytlewski, who had a hand in three touchdowns and a two-point conversion pass. "I thought Collin ran really hard tonight."
The Raiders snapped a two-game losing streak, which followed their previous win against Class 5A county rival Conner. They improved to 1-1 in the Class 6A district.
Boone County has lost five in a row since beating Conner, and fell to 0-2 in the district.
