"BUILDING LEADERS THROUGH FOOTBALL!"
In football, all young men have a chance of success. In football, the more talented player is not always the best player. In football, with the correct attitude and work ethic, any young man can compete. In football, leaders are born and confidence is built. In football, attitudes can be adjusted and low self-esteem can be lifted. In football, all young men get a chance at success.

Former Ryle Football Players getting ready for Spring

Eagles Ready For Spring Football Practice

2013 SCHEDULE (HTML) | 2012 STATISTICS (HTML)

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State football team opens its spring practice schedule on Tuesday.  The Eagles are scheduled to have 14 workouts between March 26 and April 18.

“We’re really excited about the beginning of spring practice,” said Rob Tenyer, who was promoted to Morehead State’s head coaching position in December after 12 seasons as an assistant.

Morehead State will practice at Jayne Stadium on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.  Intrasquad scrimmages are slated for April 6 and 13, while the annual Spring Game is set for April 20.

All workouts are open to the public and free of charge.

“We certainly encourage all Eagle fans to join us throughout the spring,” Tenyer said.  “We have a lot of talented players in all aspects of the program.  We would also love to have a big crowd for the annual Spring Game.  It should be a fun atmosphere.”

Morehead State finished 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Pioneer Football League a year ago, but averaged 63 points in wins over Southern Virginia, Campbell, Davidson and Valparaiso.

The Eagles led the conference in points (38.4), total yards (471.5) and passing yards (305.4) per contest.  MSU also paced the league in third-down conversions (51 percent).

Morehead State returns seven individuals who earned PFL postseason honors in 2012 -- Ronald Cooper, Kalvin Harrington, Jordan Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Rob Lewis, Rees Macshara and Aaron Meadows.

Macshara, a running back, became MSU’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 2000.  He placed second in the PFL with 92.1 ground yards per game.

Hendrix, a linebacker, set MSU’s single-season record with 123 tackles a season ago.  He also ranked first in the PFL with 11.2 stops per contest.

“We have some very talented returnees on both sides of the ball,” Tenyer said.  “We’re also excited about the newcomers because we have some individuals who could contribute right away.”

The past two years, with Tenyer as offensive coordinator, Morehead State set 29 school records and led the PFL in points, total yards and passing yards.

“This is a new era for us,” Tenyer said.  “About 95 percent of the things we’re going to do are going to be new.  The 2013 season will certainly be an opportunity for us to grow and improve.”

Tenyer’s assistant coaches are Craig Mullins, Phil Burnett, Dontae Wright, Patrick St. Louis, Andre Woodson, Brett Rude, Rod West, Andrew Doan, Wes McDermott and Matt Forrest.

“Our program is going to be built on three main principles,” Tenyer added.  “No. 1, we want to educate and graduate our student-athletes.  No. 2, we want to build a campus and community camaraderie.  And finally, we want to win Pioneer Football League championships.  If we stay focused on those three objectives, I know we will be in good shape.”
